Getting A No-Fault Divorce
On 6 April 2022, a new key piece of legislation came into force in the UK, which means that couples can now agree to a ‘no-fault divorce’. The new divorce law was introduced to reduce conflict amongst divorcing couples by removing the ability to make allegations about a spouse’s conduct. Under the reformed legislation, couples can obtain a divorce without the need to provide a reason for their decision.
The new divorce law is designed to offer couples a smoother and more streamlined divorce process. If you need more information about no-fault divorce, call our family lawyers today on 0330 175 5655, and they can guide you through the process.
The dissolution of a civil partnership is treated in much the same way as a no-fault divorce, meaning that under the new legislation, couples will not need to provide a reason to dissolve their civil partnership.
No-fault divorce will reduce conflict, meaning couples can focus more on important issues like children, property and finances.
Separation Agreements
If you and your partner do not wish to divorce or dissolve your civil partnership, other options are available. One of the more common is an informal separation agreement, which records your decision about your finances, arrangements for any children and/or future divorce proceedings in a Deed of Separation document.
