At the beginning of the Covid 19 Pandemic the UK Government released a moratorium on commercial evictions, meaning that commercial landlords could not evict tenants for non-payment of rent due to the Covid 19 Pandemic until the 30 June 2021. Yesterday, the Government announced that this will now be extended until 25 March 2022.
While evictions will be prohibited until 25 March 2022, the suspension on statutory demands and winding up petitions will be realised on the 1 October 2021, meaning that Landlord may be able to use these option to be able to recover unpaid rent from the 1st October 2021.
The Government have also announced plans to introduce a mandatory arbitration process between landlord and tenants for unpaid rents / debts.
